Company Overview
EdenTree Technologies was started in May 2002 by Marc Hornbeek. Marc has 25 years experience building technology solutions to automate testing laboratories for companies like Nortel, Tekelec, ECI Telecom, GSLI and Vpacket. At each company he tried to buy automation solutions to help his labs be more efficient and productive. Each time he found plenty of automated tools for testing specific product functions, but nothing on the market was available to automate the physical infrastructure of the laboratory itself. Without an automated physical infrastructure, laboratories require significant manual labor to operate, human errors are rampant and gross inefficiencies result in the process of using the laboratory equipment. At each company he had to build solutions to address the automation of the physical infrastructure of the laboratory. Armed with this knowledge he decided to take what he learned about automating labs and build a product to address the market requirements. The result is a hardware, software and robotic solution that, for the first time, brings automation to the entire physical infrastructure of testing laboratories.
Market
The first market for EdenTree is testing laboratories. We are focusing on the R&D labs for network companies. This segment of the market is over $500M. The entire addressable market, which includes other types of labs, and applications in classrooms, factories, networks and other industries outside the networking space, is over $10B.
Unique opportunity
We fast forward to 2004 and testing labs still use this antiquated method of connecting physical ports between an even more diverse range of test equipment with manual copper, fiber and coax patch cords and manual user interfaces such as manual switches and lights of various sorts. If we could just apply automation technology to testing lab infrastructures today as we did to network infrastructures over the past 100 years imagine the effectiveness and efficiencies that would result! EdenTree is the first company to bring a complete automation solution to the testing laboratories.
Here is a typical lab today
Imagine trying to find the right cable to connect to the port you need to test. The EdenTree solution eliminates all the manual cable hunt and connections. EdenTree’s remote high security software interface, allows users to connect any devices to run the test from anywhere in the world. Not only can they connect cables without a human involvement they can recycle power read LED’s and flip switches. Everything you needed a person to do before can be completed remotely with much better reliability and can be automated via the
EdenTree programmable application interface.
Here is the EdenTree solution
Our customers tell us their effectiveness is much higher but more importantly they are able to have more comprehensive testing in a shorter amount of time with less equipment, thereby reducing “time to quality”.
The ROI on this solution is typically less than six months. More importantly labs are reaching the limits of how much manual testing can be completed in their time window. And the trend towards using off-shore engineering teams also adds complexity to laboratory access and operations. Automation is the only solution for them to keep up with the demands of faster time to market, faster time to volume, better quality and at lower costs.
